This conference has grown over the years to become a major event on the local energy sector calendar as it provides an important opportunity for the exchange of ideas and information between the Government, industry and the wider national community. This year's theme “Energy for Competitiveness” which will seek to examine ways to build a competitive economy and grow our gas-based economy is timely, given the current global financial challenge. Increasingly, countries like ours must find new ways to improve their levels of productivity and innovative capacity of both our people and our business enterprises. The discussions emanating from this meeting will therefore be valuable.
